Abstract

Efforts to improve the quality of farmers ' land in a sustainable manner can utilize crop residues into soil ameliorants, namely biochar. This community service aims to provide solutions by conducting training on how to make biochar from the waste of oil palm farmers, namely palm fronds using the pyrolysis method. Participants of community service activities members of farmer groups and village officials of Aek Paing Rantauprapat, North Sumatra. The activities carried out are to socialize the benefits and how to make biochar from oil palm fronds to farmer groups and the distribution of processed fronds into biochar and liquid smoke. The members of the farmer group were given examples of tools for the biochar manufacturing process and were shown directly how it works until the packaging process is ready for use. Farmer groups are expected to be able to utilize palm fronds waste into something that is worth selling, and can be used for crops so that it is expected to provide benefits in terms of economy, crop productivity, and in terms of environmental preservation.
